Books hold special memories for children. I am sure most of you can remember a book you enjoyed as a child. I remember those blue Bible Story books and Golden Books when I was little. As I got older, I read The Little House on the Prairie series. I also have great memories of reading Sandra Boynton board books to my own children when they were little. Now we enjoy the silly SkippyJon Jones books. My class also has favorite books we’ve read this year. One author I always share with my class is Robert Munsch. His humor and expression in stories teach kids that reading is FUN! We want to know what your favorite children’s book is. Please share your comments with us. Don’t forget to tell us where you are from so we can locate it on our map.

My favorite books as a child were the "Bobsey
ReplyDeleteTwins" series. They were about 2 sets of twins
with all kinds of exciting adventures.
I can remember loving Nancy Drew mystery books. My favorite was the Mystery of the Moss Covered Mansion. My grandmother has some of the original hardbacks. I used to think it was a real treat to get to go and pick one out to read!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, my favorites were anything by Beverly Cleary (the Ramona series, Socks). I read them over and over. I also remembering liking The Boxcar Children. My mom was librarian at my elementary school, so I practically lived in a library and was always reading something.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite to read to my nieces (ages 3 and 6) is The Paper Bag Princess.

I have so many favorite books that it is hard to pick just one. One of my favorite picture books to share with my own 4th grade students is Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge. When I was in 4th grade my favorite book was Where the Red Fern Grows. I also loved Nancy Drew, LIttle House on the Prairie Series, and Anne of Green Gables.

Although it is hard for me to narrow down my favorites, the three that come to mind that were favorites in my classroom are Eric Carle, Leo Lionni & Bill Martin Jr. Tonight, my two little girls (4 years & 1 year old) read "A Color of His Own" I love that story because of the colorful artwork, interesting story and the lesson that is learned from the chameleon. Have fun with Mrs. Lambert!

My favorite preschool book is Is Your Mama a Llama? I love reading that to my two-year-old, and he loves listening to it.
ReplyDeleteI also like the Little House on the Prairie books, and the EB White books (Charlotte's Web, Trumpet of the Swan, and Stuart Little.)
Oooh, and I forgot about Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. That was a favorite "story corner" read-aloud one. A few years later, I was a big fan of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh and pretty much anything by Judy Blume. I'm a little sad that Knights of the Kitchen Table wasn't written until I was nearly grown up, 'cause it looks hilarious. I'll stop now... there are so many good ones, and clearly I'm not capable of choosing a favorite. (I'm enjoying reading about others' favorites, too!)

I loved (and my boys love) the Berenstain Bears and a lot of the Little Golden Books like Dr. Dan the Bandage Man and Goodbye Tonsils. I also loved Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. Favorites were the Ramona books and one about a cat, I think it was called Socks. I had so many favorites at different ages that it's very hard to choose!
