A New Year!

Well, I have finally gotten back to my blog after a long break this summer.  It is hard to believe that 6 weeks of school have already passed.  I have a wonderful group of eager students.  We will soon be adding interesting facts about animals that the students would like to share.  For now though, I am just going to share a few pictures of centers and reading groups.  Some of the centers we have in class are big books, draw and write, writing table, word work, poetry center, spelling, buddy reading, computers, and pocket charts.

Books & Memories

Books hold special memories for children.  I am sure most of you can remember a book you enjoyed as a child.  I remember those blue Bible Story books and Golden Books when I was little.  As I got older, I read The Little House on the Prairie series.  I also have great memories of reading Sandra Boynton board books to my own children when they were little.  Now we enjoy the silly SkippyJon Jones books.  My class also has favorite books we’ve read this year.  One author I always share with my class is Robert Munsch.   His humor and expression in stories teach kids that reading is FUN!  We want to know what your favorite children’s book is.  Please share your comments with us.  Don’t forget to tell us where you are from so we can locate it on our map.

Field Trip Fun

This past Thursday we were able to take our first field trip of the year.  We went to the Children's Museum and Diebert Park.  The kids loved playing & learning at the children's museum.  The construction zone was definitely a hit.  After we finished there we went to the park.  They played for a while.   Then we went for a walk and enjoyed seeing turtles, fish, swans, and geese.

The Adventure Begins

Welcome to my blog and first post.  I am hoping to make this an experience for my students to learn about the world and people around them.  My vision is to provide them with a resource for learning geography from our followers while also applying math skills through data collection and interpretation.  Of course we may explore other educational opportunities as well.  This week we invite you to take our poll on your favorite school subject.  So join us, follow us, and leave comments when you feel like it.  Don't forget to tell us where you are from so we can locate it on our map.
